FOUR DEADLY TALES BY FOUR KILLER WOMEN

[ MOVIE REVIEW ]

i would normally tell you about the film's plot but since this is an anthology film there's more then one story and i can't be bothered to summarize each short so i will say that all the films are directed by women and some of them are also written by women with the exception of the first film and all four directors had creative freedom to whatever they wanted.

Most of the cast is made up of unknown actors that is except from Two And A Half Men's Melanie Lynskey and Powerless's Christina Kirk and both are actually really good in this film altho whenever Mel was on screen all i kept on thinking was "That's Rose From Two And A Half Men" for me personally i'd say that most of if not all of the unknown actors in this film have a future in acting some might not be A-List but they will make it as an actor in these straight to DVD / On Demand horror films the acting is usually pretty bad so i'm glad to see one where the acting is actually pretty good granted not OSCAR worthy but it's not bad acting.

This film does have scenes that link all the shorts together and as far as i could tell they tell no story but what really intrigued me was the fact that barring the last scene they were all nearly 100% animated using stop motion and while the animation isn't that bad "for some reason it reminded me of Nightmare Before Christmas" you could tell that the animation budget really wasn't that high there really wasn't alot of fluid animation it was mostly very stop and start but when it was good it was great.

While this film isn't wet your pants scary instead it focuses more on what you don't see rather then what you do see and for me at least that's pretty creepy and i like the fact that each of the shorts have a different sub-genre the first one is more of a psychological horror film with the second being a horror comedy , the third one i'd say is either a zombie movie or a supernatural movie and the fourth one is a supernatural film and for me it's great to see a different mix of genre's in one film.

While i have been giving this film alot of praise in this review and apart from the ok animation the other thing that really bugged me was the pacing of the first short it felt way to long and it's probably my least favorite of the whole bunch because of that while watching that short i honestly felt bored not Rings bored but still bored.

Now i have no idea what the budget was for this film but considering it was released on demand chances are it wasn't high so i was really shocked to see that the film actually has really good production values the film from a visual standpoint looks amazing and so do some of the make up effects i say some because the one's in the third short don't look as good.

Overall i would say that if your a horror fan you should at least consider watching this film because chances are you'll find something you'll like within it and i can honestly say that the four women who made the shorts all have a future in horror i give this film a solid 6.5 out of 10
